  24. Shelby says:

Hola!! Gustamala is seriously the most amazing thing I have experienced in my whole entire life! From seeing all the children and people who have practically nothing here but can still be happy from getting little pieces of candy (Dulce), it really makes me think about how much we really have. The past two days we have been building homes for people and tomorrow we will be dedicating the homes and seeing if the familes we are building for will except Christ into their lives. Please pray!! We are all saying it is like going into war, which it is!! I am really enjoying speaking Spanish to everyone, even though Im not the best at it..but its still the best experience I’ve been apart of. I’m really looking forward to seeing what God has instore for me, the families, and the rest of the team!!

  25. Good morning, Shelby!! I can hear the happiness in your post!! 🙂 I’m so glad for all you are experiencing! We will continue to pray for you all, especially today for the dedications! Have a great day~
    Amy

  26. Shelby,

I guess you can see now what Daddy saw when he was down in Guatemala about how happy they all are with very little. Also glad to see that your spanish is coming in handy…thank goodness we saw Puss In Boots to sharpen those spanish skills (haha). We miss you and are very proud of you. Can’t wait to hear stories and see pictures! – Love you! – Mom

Keep up the great work, Shelby! I know this is a big day for you while you’re dedicating the homes. We’ll be praying especially for you guys today. Tell us about the family that you’re building the home for – is it a family or an individual? How’s the weather for you guys? Have you used your cool poncho yet? Are the scrubs coming in handy?
Have a great day! (PS – had coffee from Guatemala this morning at the coffee shop in Zeeland this morning in your honor…)
    Love you!
    Dad

    • Shelby Bond says:

The weather has been a blessing! The three days we were building, the weather was not too hot and not to cold! It was perfect! The second day when we were leaving it rained though, but we were already on the road back. We did get out at a gas station and dance in the rain 🙂 The the two days we were at different villages, it rained, but it felt so good! Both the villages had soccer fields, so we played soccer in the rain and got all muddy and soaked! I was sooo dirty! I was so caught up in the rain feeling good that I did not use my rain poncho, but I did end up using my scrubs on the stucco day! That was so fun! We’re going to go to the market soon!

Prayed through dedication day and praying for the clinic and the Jesus film. May your hands, heart and feet be God’s ambassadors.

  35. Shelby Bond says:

Yesterday we had dedications and I have to say, it was the most powerful thing I’ve ever experienced. The family I built the home for was a single mother and her young daughter. When it was our time to dedicate our home, my team (Riley, Sarah, Bill, Alivia, Dayton, and Erin – the nurse), the family, Dan and Hermano Jesus all went inside the home and presented gifts to the family. Then Erin gave gifts like salt, soup, beans, and the Bible which represented God and his love. Afterwards, Hermano Jesus preached to the family about God’s love towords them. After his message, the mother said she accepted Chirst into her heart, but she either still had boughts or she didn’t think she was worthy (which none of us are!). We then prayed over her, placing our hands on her, and thats when I really felt God’s power over us. Even though I couldn’t tell what Hermano Jesus was saying, I could feel the power in his words. The lady started shaking and crying, and that’s when we all could feel God. While dedicating the other homes, we would sing and pray outside while the other families and teams were in their own homes. All the family members besides one accepted Jesus into their hearts. In the last home, the father of the home accepted Christ, but the mother didn’t. It was really hard, but we will be praying for the lady (her name’s Nanci) that her husband will lead the home and show her God’s love. It was really hard leaving the village when it was time to go though! There was a little boy named Jose who I am in absolute LOVE with!! He would follow we around everywhere I went, always grabbing my arms or having his arms around my waist. At the very end this little girl named Marina constently wanted me to pick her up and never put her down. She had the biggest, most beautiful eyes ever!! I wanted to just take them home with me in my suitcase!! I am in absolute love with Guatamala!!

Shelby, so glad to hear about your experiences and how God is working. It would be really hard to leave the kids in the villages once you spent a week with all of them…that must have been very sad for you. I hope you are taking pictures so we can see the children you are talking about. We also have been praying for Nanci over here. Have a fun day tomorrow while you shop…that will be interesting! Love you and miss you….Mom

  45. Becki Visser says:

Oh Shelby, I just loved reading your post about the dedication day. You are a very articulate young woman and I felt like I was there when I was reading it — and got lots of goose bumps! I am so glad you are there and having this wonderful experience. From what I am reading, all of you have fallen in love with the children and have made one or two special friends. I think most of (if not all) of us parents wish we could be there as well and all of your descriptions have definitely confirmed that one of these days I will be heading to Guatemala. You’re in our prayers.

    Shelby–
I hope your Sunday day of worship was as great as ours! Pastor Jim gave a great sermon and i took so much to heart! Peyton sat next to me in 1st service, and Grace sat next to me when I was helping with the kids during 2nd service, so I wasn’t alone. I sure missed you a lot today, but I knew you were having fun with your own service. You were there in my memory! I’ll prob see you this week at the family night at church on Wed or at Grace’s play this coming weekend…Thinking and praying for you as always! Have a super day, and have a safe trip home! Can’t wait for you to tell me more stories! Cya soon!
