  12. Lynn Albachten says:

Anything of priority in the Kingdom is out of our league. When we serve in our church, we must never forget that we are dealing with people’s lives – their internal struggles and eternal destinies. Sincerity and sweat do not always suffice. God places us in positions beyond our capabilities so that we will be at HIS Absolute mercy, realizing that only HE can succeed.
When you work for God, with your assignment comes the guarantee that you will be equipped for the job.

Hii friend. I know you are having a blast & I’m excited to hear all about! I’ve been really into quotes lately and I thought I’d leave you with one: “Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see.” -C.S. Lewis
I miss you and I can’t wait to see your face again. 🙂
    Love Alyssa

  17. Sarah Albachten says:

Hey all! I’m finally here!! Sorry that I couldn’t respond sooner, but hey, what can ya do?! haha
So as of today, we have been building for 2 days now! It has been such an amazing experience so far, and I can’t even imagine what God has in store for me and all of my amigos for the rest of the week! So anyways, story time! I’m just going to copy stuff out of my journal, because I don’t know what else to write!
    Day 1,
We are finally settled I think….the ride was crazy. It was soooo bumpy and rural! I can’t even fathom the way that these people live. It’s so different! The most shocking part of the day was definitely when I walked out of the airport in Guatemala City, and was already freaked out enough about the whole trip, and then I had a total culture shock. People were lined up outside of the airport and little kids were running around everywhere. And I turned to my right and I saw a tiny little man on a skateboard scooting around…he had a ton of body malfunctions and it was so sad. I seriously couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Also, I experienced God so far by the completely safe ride here and also just by calming all of our nerves and giving us a sense of peace.
    Day 2,
God is so amazing. & Guatemala is so beautiful, so are it’s people. Had such a great day today! I couldn’t sleep very well last night but when I woke up, I was ready to face the day. We ate breakfast, (We had eggs, refried beans & chips, potatoes, and watermelon! Yum.) Who would’ve thought of having chips & dip with breakfast?! …Not me. haha After breakfast we packed our bags and headed for the village, La Reina, that we will be workiing in for the next 2 days. The ride wasbeautiful! It was quite bumpy, and by quite, I mean VERY!! haha But it was well worth it. Driving down the road I saw so many beautiful little children, and my heart just melted. They yelled, “Dulces, dulces!” countless times, and we gave them some. They literally ambushed us to get the candy. haha We also saw a volcano erupt! (or at least smoke) =/ Idk for sure. So finally…..we arrived at the village! ……An hour and halfish later. We got out of the vans, unloaded everything, got into our groups, and found our spots. My group is: Bill Bird, Shelby bond, Me, Alivia Selk, Riley Stevens, and Dayton Wierenga. Our building spot is right next to Chris’s group. It’s pretty fun. So we started building the houses, and got all of the dry wall done, the door slot & window slot open, and all of the outside “dry wall” stuff done. While building I got tons of cute pictures with the kids, painted nails, and gave Teresa (my new friend) my flower & pearl bobby pin. She loves it. Also, when we first, first arrived while we were unloading, thislittle boy came up to me and smiled, waved, and said “Hola!” Oh. My. Gosh. cutest thing ever. I thought my heart was going to burst from cuteness overload. On another random note, there were cute little puppies everywhere! And I couldn’t pet them… all! 😦 Total, and complete torture. Anyways, i talked to a lot of the kids and it was tons of fun trying to communicate with them. We ate beans and rice for lunch and then had PB & Nutella on a homemade corn tortilla! Who would’ve ever thought that they would have PB….let alone Nutella?! haha The toilet was kinda ucky…but hey! It is what it is…haha I’ve experienced God so far during devotions tonight. We sang this incredible song, Great I Am. Most of us were standing and my hands were both raised….I just felt this amazing sense of peace and love rush over me. It was awesome.

I hope your doing well. I have been keeping you and the team in my prayers. It is 8:41 your time. I don’t know if it is dark yet, the Jesus film may not have started yet. Will continue to pray this evening that you are witness to those in the village and that they come to know Christ for the very first time tonight. I hope you are feeling and seeing God everywhere you go. I am certain that you are being His hands and feet to all you have the privilege of meeting. You are such a beautiful young lady. 39. Sarah says:

Hey all!! Sorry I haven’t posted much at all! I’ve been so busy with traveling, devos, sleeping, showering, and visiting the babies in the orphanage 😉 [thats for you mom:)] Last time I decided to copy stuff out of my journal, but since I haven’t been able to journal the past few days I don’t have much to write! 😦 I’ll just do a short overview of each of the past days!
    Day 3,
Again, today was another amazing day. I woke up, ate some french toast and watermelon, and got ready and hit the road! I slept sooo much better last night, so it was much easier to function. When we got to the village we sanded and mudded some more, and then stuccoed! It was SO MESSY! oh my word…it got alllll up in my hair and took like 20 minutes, literally, to get it out in the shower. crazy. once we got all of the stuccoing done, we sanded & mudded the last time, and then started putting the patios up. Once the bars for those were up we could eat! We had chicken salad on a giant tortilla chip, and guacamole on a giant tortilla chip. the guac was SOOO good! I had seconds….haha and to make it even better, we put rice on the guac…yum!! Okay, enough with the food. We got to spend so much time with the kids today, it was awesome! I made tons of new little friends, and gave out lots of candy. I met this one lady named Sonya, and she was the sweetest thing! I painted her nails, and then she painted mine….we talked for a while about everything and then I asked her if she had kids and she was pregnant!! So cool 🙂 She was 5 months along, so please be praying for her to have another healthy 4 months of pregnancy! Then we said our goodbyes and headed out. When we got back to the base we ate Dominoe’s pizza, and I got to hold all of the little orphan babies! SSSOOOOOO cute!! There names were Chino, Velvet, Dolce, Joswe, Frankie, Christian, and Melina. I could take them home anyday…..Joswe was actually sick, which was so sad! He was in the hospital for what they thought was pneumonia, but it didn’t end up being that, thankfully! They think it was just a bad cold. I went back up to our housing area and I blogged! Which. took. forever. mostly because Chandler was distracting me….haha but no, it literally took an hour. Then we had devo time and again, it was amazing. Dan asks the best questions and leaves you thinking….hard. The most surprising part of the day was that I saw a poisonous spider!! It was SO DISGUSTING! These little kids were holding it….idk! D: The most meaningful thing so far is just the amount of the kids love for us is just unimaginable. It such an innocent love, that never holds back. 🙂 [[I guess I did have one more journal entry to copy 😉 haha]]
    Day 4,
Today was AMAZING! We dedicated all of the houses that we made to the families! Everyone accepted Christ except this one young mom named Nancy. Her husband accepted so I pray that God would just encourage him to keep on praying and helping her find the love of God:) The house that I helped make was for a young single mom named Rosa, and her daughter Cindy. Man, when we(my group) went in that house and everyone else was surrounding it singing and praying, it was a struggle for Rosa. She accepted the gifts and thanked us for them, but when it was time for Hermano Jesus to present the gospel to her she couldn’t focus. She was fidgeting and looking away, and just kind of paying attention…but kind of not. When he asked her if she would accept or not, she asked another question. She had many doubts, and just thought that she had to clean herself BEFORE she let Jesus into her heart, which, we all know is just not true! God will take you in, and love you no matter what your past is. But in the end, she accepted!! Praise the Lord! It was quite the spiritual battle, but we prayed our way through it:) She got down on the floor and knelt while we all put our hands on her shoulders and prayed for her. Tears were streaming down all of our faces….even Daytons 😉 haha It was and amazing experience. At the end of that day, we had to say our goodbyes. Wow, was that hard. Yolanda was one little girl that I loved! She followed me around and she had the CUTEST big brown eyes ever!! I just melted everytime she looked at me and whispered, “dulce?” in her cute little voice. I definitely did NOT want to say “adios.” But in the end, I know that I made a difference in these peoples lives and that gave me the strength to feel good about leaving, knowing that God is working in their village. 🙂
    Day 5,
Today we had our first medical clinic! I was not a part of the medical clinic at all, but I played with the kids all day. I painted a few nails, but it was very difficult to communicate with the people! They didn’t speak straight up Spanish, they had some different dialect, and some even spoke Mayan! So communication was pretty much all through the eyes and hugs:) The girls were very shy, but a bunch of the boys played soccer with us! We played literally, for hours. For about an hour of that time, it downpoured. It was awesome! Although, I did have a white shirt on, and so did Dani, so Micheal and Chandler switched shirts with us. Thank God for them! haha At one point in the game I shot the ball in the goal, and pounded Russell in the face with it….I felt terrible. There was a print from the ball on his face! D: …..But it went in and I got a point!! 🙂 haha So for the rest of the night we were alllllll wet, nasty, and muddy! It wasn’t the most comfortable thing, but was definitely worth every raindrop!:) After soccer, we watched the Jesus film. Then we sang for the people….that was so awesome! I have absolutely no voice anymore either, so for all of you who know what I mean by this, I had to whisper scream and still do! haha Chris thinks its soooooo funny…..but i don’t 😉 haha Then we had an opportunity to give our testimonies. Nick Suits, Russell Wierenga, Jaycee Westerling, and Jamie Curtis gave theirs. It was truly amazing. I was so proud of all of them and the courage that they had:) I truly believe that God touched those villagers lives with their stories. After the testimonies, Hermano Jesus presented the gospel to them, and they had an opportunity to accept Jesus into their hearts. It was truly amazing to watch all of these people just surrender themselves and cry out to the Lord. Pretty much all of us students were bawling, praying for each other, praying for the villagers, ourselves, and Hermano Jesus. It was so beautiful:)
–Today we do another medical clinic in a village 3 times the size of the other! So please pray for changed hearts, lives, and healthy people:) I will post probably tomorrow night again, with my stories from today and shopping tomorrow! God bless you all, and please keep us in your prayers! 🙂
–I just wanna give a shoutout to my Daddy also, Dad you are the bomb! I love you so much and am sooo thankful for you everyday! Happy Father’s Day 😀 ❤
–Man, this was REAALLY long….I guess I don't need a journal to write a ton. haha
